Job Requirements/Description
How you'll make a difference:

South Gloucestershire Council supports people in the community who are disabled, have learning difficulties, are care experienced, are experiencing homelessness, or face other forms of vulnerability. We recognise that these challenges can affect young people just as they do adults. It is crucial that the voices and lived experiences of young people are at the heart of our work, ensuring their diverse perspectives, experiences and ideas help shape discussions and inform the continuous improvement of services and outcomes.

What you will be doing:
  • You will directly support council colleagues to involve young people in key decision-making processes across a range of services and projects.
  • Through attending meetings and engaging with staff, you will represent the views of young people, ensuring their perspectives are considered in discussions and plans.
  • It will be your responsibility to listen to and gather feedback from young people, sharing their experiences and ideas with council staff to ensure their voices are heard.
  • Working alongside colleagues, you will develop training activities that increase understanding of the needs and experiences of young people.
  • Contributing to digital campaigns and communications, you will help raise awareness of young people and issues affecting them in South Gloucestershire.
  • You will be provided support to champion diversity, equality and inclusion, and to challenge colleagues when necessary.
What we need from you:
  • You will need to be willing to share your experiences and perspectives to help influence positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • We are looking for someone who can demonstrate respect for different views, beliefs, identities and backgrounds, valuing the experiences of others.
  • Ideally, you will have some basic computer skills or be willing to learn.
  • Whilst this is not a requirement of the role, if you are LGBTQ+, BAME, a care leaver, have a disability, or have experience of other vulnerable and underrepresented groups, this would provide greater insight into the more diverse members of our younger community.
What you need to know:
  • This role is for a limited term of 12 months from the agreed start date.
  • We are seeking to recruit three young people (aged 18 to 25) from varied backgrounds, who can provide vital insight into the lives of young people in and around South Gloucestershire. You will also have the opportunity to share your experiences of council services.

  • As a Young Ambassador, you will be able to influence planning and decision making at all levels of the council, representing our younger members of the community, and helping to make positive changes for young people.

  • Applicants must be aged 18-25 and live in (or have a strong links to) South Gloucestershire.

  • Please see our applicant info pack attached for more information on how to apply for the role.

Interviews will take place week commencing 7th December 2026.
