School Staff and Outdoor Instructor (SSI)

Clifton College is seeking a dedicated and experienced School Staff and Outdoor Instructor (SSI) to play a key role in delivering our thriving Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and Outdoor Education programmes. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic professional to support the development of young people through adventure, leadership, and service.

This is a full-time, term-time only position, including attendance at field weekends, camps, expeditions, and other co-curricular events as required.

Working closely with the Contingent Commander and the Head of Outdoor Education, the successful candidate will undertake a varied dual role, combining responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the College's CCF with the delivery of a broad and engaging Outdoor Education programme, including the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

This role offers the opportunity to shape meaningful experiences for pupils through training exercises, expeditions, adventurous activities, camps, and leadership development opportunities. Approximately half of the role will be dedicated to the CCF, including training, administration, logistics, safety management, and supporting cadets and staff. The remaining time will focus on Outdoor Education, supporting the Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme, expeditions, Ten Tors training, and a range of adventurous activities.

Outdoor Education and the CCF are integral parts of life at Clifton College, helping pupils to develop confidence, resilience, teamwork, leadership skills, and a spirit of adventure. Through a wide range of activities including expeditions, field exercises, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, and rifle shooting, pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves and build lasting skills beyond the classroom.

We are looking for an organised, proactive, and highly motivated individual with strong instructional skills and a passion for working with young people. The successful candidate will bring experience in delivering adventurous activities and training programmes, alongside the ability to manage equipment, logistics, administration, and safety responsibilities to the highest standards. Mountain Leader (Summer) qualification and Skill at Arms Instructor accreditation are essential.
