Regulatory Support Technical Officer (Food and Safety)

Salary: £29,542 - £34,811 per annum, pro rata**

Incremental progression is through a defined gateway subject to competence, qualifications, authorisation and successful completion of the Council’s development requirements

Do you have exceptional IT skills and enjoy working in a role that combines customer contact, regulatory work, providing business support and travel within the North Devon District to undertake inspections? Applicants must have a driving licence and access to a car.

We are looking for two enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our Food and Safety Team as Regulatory Support Technical Officers. These roles are part of an expanded service model designed to improve resilience, increase capacity and help deliver our food safety intervention programme.

The Role

This is a varied and rewarding role supporting the Council's food safety, health and safety and wider Environmental Health functions. Working closely with Environmental Health Officers, you will:

• Undertake food hygiene inspections at low-risk premises, in accordance with training, competence and authorisation
• Undertake remote hygiene assessments, questionnaires and follow-up interventions
• Manage a list and programme of low-risk premises interventions, ensuring records and actions are kept up to date
• Process food business registrations and maintain regulatory databases
• Provide first line advice and guidance to food businesses and members of the public
• Monitor and triage enquiries, food alerts, service requests and regulatory intelligence
• Support Food Hygiene Rating Scheme administration and revisits
• Support Export Health Certificate administration, invoicing and cost recovery
• Maintain performance information, audit records and case management systems
• Assist authorised officers with evidence gathering, sampling support and follow-up work

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking people who can demonstrate:

• Excellent IT skills and confidence using databases, spreadsheets and multiple software systems
• Exceptional problem solving abilities and sound decision making skills
• The ability to remain calm and effective while managing competing priorities and deadlines
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team
• Experience in a regulatory, compliance, customer service, administrative or Environmental Health environment would be advantageous
