Calling all compassionate and dedicated individuals! Mencap is seeking a passionate Support Worker to join our incredible team in Launceston on a permanent basis.

We support one lady and one gentleman who have a learning disability as well as differing health needs. We currently have a void for a third person to support. We support in all aspects of their lives from personal care, medication, moving people, hoisting, wheelchair use, SALT all the way down to support in accessing the community. The gentleman we support does have an aspect of challenging behaviour.

Both people we support have limited communication so require support staff to have good communication. We record all recording on a company app, so an understanding of IT is important.

As a Support Worker, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of these individuals. Each person has their own unique abilities and needs, and you will be supporting them to live the life they choose.

What we're looking for:

  • A genuine passion for supporting others.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Being able to reduce social isolation of people with a learning disability.
  • Being able to increase the independence and confidence of individuals with a learning disability.
  • Enabling the people with a learning disability to fully access their local communities.

All our services are 24hr care. We prepare the rotas at least 4 weeks in advance so you can still plan your personal and social life!

  • Days and weekends: Shifts vary from 08:00 till 22:00 with shift lengths being no longer than 12 hours.
  • Sleep-ins: 22:00 till 08:00, will often have an evening shift before attached or morning shift after attached.
  • There is also a sleep-in available where you will receive an enhanced flat rate payment of £64.20
  • You will need to have a Full UK Driving Licence
  • All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and suitable references
