Job Purpose

The Hygiene Manager ensures the smooth, safe, and efficient day-to-day management of all hygiene and cleaning services onsite. This role serves as the primary link between the company and the client, driving continuous process improvement, ensuring strict compliance with safety standards, and leading a high-performing team through robust training and development.

Key Responsibilities

Client Relationship & Contract Management

  • Build Partnerships: Develop and maintain professional, proactive relationships with all levels of client representatives.
  • Promote Services: Act as a brand ambassador to promote company capabilities and identify opportunities to expand services.
  • Financial Administration: Oversee the scheduling, budgeting, and billing arrangements for all ad hoc or specialized works onsite.

Operational Excellence & Quality Control

  • Resource Planning: Plan and allocate staff workloads and equipment to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Resource Management: Adjust staffing levels dynamically to meet daily service requirements, seasonal peaks, and extra work requests.
  • Quality Audits: Conduct regular, documented audits of cleaning standards across the facility.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify service failures, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement robust corrective procedures to prevent recurrence.
  • Work Scheduling: Create comprehensive daily, weekly, and long-term periodic cleaning schedules.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide Direction: Deliver clear leadership, daily guidance, and operational support to all hygiene staff.
  • Onboarding: Ensure all new employees undergo a thorough company and site-specific induction.
  • Training Needs Analysis (TNA): Identify skills gaps, recommend targeted training programmes, and evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Talent Development: Build individual development plans using internal training departments and external consultants to maximize staff potential.

HR & Workforce Management

  • Absence Management: Monitor, record, and manage staff absences, track trends, and conduct return-to-work interviews.
  • HR Compliance: Oversee onsite HR functions, including grievance handling, disciplinary procedures, and performance reviews in line with company policy.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Promote Safety Culture: Enforce safe working practices and ensure total compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Risk Awareness: Ensure all staff thoroughly understand their duties, equipment handling, and chemical safety (COSHH).

  • Leadership: Proven ability to motivate, manage, and develop a diverse, multi-shifted workforce.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for client briefing and team coaching.
  • Workload Prioritization: Exceptional organizational skills to manage an ever-changing workload under pressure.
  • Problem Solving: Analytical mindset to audit standards, spot failures, and implement permanent fixes.
  • Financial Literacy: Basic commercial acumen to manage resource costs and handle ad hoc billing.

Experience & Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Proven Background: Demonstrated success in a Hygiene Manager or Assistant Hygiene Manager role within a similar fast-paced sector (e.g., food manufacturing, commercial facilities, or industrial cleaning).
  • Team Management: Experience managing large teams, including handling HR issues, rotas, and performance management.
  • Client-Facing Roles: Prior experience directly managing client expectations and service level agreements (SLAs).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Health & Safety Certifications: IOSH Managing Safely or
  • Chemical Safety: COSHH training and certification.
