Job Requirements/Description
Working across both Dorset County Hospital and Dorset Healthcare University Hospital, this is a leadership role within digital medicines responsible for maintaining and optimising existing EPMA systems, delivering quality and capability improvement, and providing professional and clinical oversight to ensure high standards of patient safety and care. This role line manages the Principal Pharmacy Technician. This role supports works closely with the system/joint lead pharmacist digital medicines to support system-wide digital medicines priorities.

To line manage the Principal Pharmacy Technician for Pharmacy Systems (DCH) and to provide managerial, professional and clinical oversight of Pharmacy Systems (JAC, EPMA, PTS, AerosScout)

To optimise the existing EPMA system by developing analytical tools to support patient care such as clinical prioritisation and performance dashboards

To support the Medicines Optimisation work programme for the Medicines Committee

To support the pharmacy clinical audit programme

To support the System wide Digital Medicine Strategy and the development of a Single Medication Record for the system

To participate in the provision of the clinical pharmacy service, inpatient and outpatient dispensing services

To deputise for the Joint Digital Lead Pharmacist.

To maintain and develop pharmacy (electronic) systems that support the business of both DCH and DHC pharmacy departments and wider Trusts. Specifically:

To provide professional oversight of the EPMA system and any subsequent upgrades to ensure patient safety

To maintain the integrity and function of the pharmacy stock control (PSC) and CMM EPMA system, prescription tracking system (PTS) and Wi-Fi environmental monitoring systems (AeroScout) – ‘Pharmacy Systems’

To optimise the existing EPMA system by developing analytical tools to support patient care such as clinical prioritisation and performance dashboards

To support the System-wide digital medicines strategy and the development of a single medication record for the system (including the transition to Healthset EHR as required)

To supervise development and review of SOPs for the operation and use of Pharmacy Systems

To ensure the security of Pharmacy Systems to ensure only appropriate users can access such systems and only at a level appropriate to their role

To ensure business continuity plans are in place

To ensure systems are in place to maintain data quality

To ensure Information Governance rules are observed

To ensure training for users of Pharmacy Systems is available as required

To assess upgrades to ensure they are fit for purpose and/or deliver benefits for the business and implement them as appropriate

To liaise and network with other systems users (especially in Dorset) to learn and share best practice

To have oversight of data management and reporting

Be an active member of any system user groups
