Actual Salary £21,581 - £21,920 per annum per annum (Grade 3)

This job is for 37 hours per week and 38.2 weeks per year.

It is offered on a Permanent basis.

Approximate start date 01/10/2026.

Assistant Science Technician

We require an enthusiastic and flexible person to join our committed team of support staff. The successful candidate will provide technical and administrative support to teaching staff in the Science department including some in-class support with pupil activities. The duties will be varied across the department, helping to maintain an orderly, safe and healthy environment – preparing and maintaining resources, apparatus and equipment.

A vocational or academic qualification in the relevant subject area at NVQ Level 2 or above is preferred, together with previous practical experience in an appropriate work area. However, we would be delighted to hear from anyone who has an interest in the post and works with children.

Key responsibilities:

  • Set up and arrange standard biology, chemistry, and physics apparatus alongside chemical solutions for KS3 and GCSE classes, guided by the Senior Technician to ensure a safe learning space.

  • Offer basic assistance to students regarding correct, safe handling of lab apparatus during practical activities, following instructions from the teaching staff.

  • Support teachers with routine classroom help during practical sessions, including distributing resources, replenishing items, and managing minor spills.

  • Keep prep rooms and laboratories tidy and well-ordered by washing glassware, sanitising surfaces, and clearing apparatus promptly following sessions.

Essential knowledge and skills:

Basic technical knowledge of standard school biology, chemistry and physics apparatus, routine chemical preparation (dilutions) and standard laboratory safety protocols.
