Location: Exeter

Salary: £54,609 - £62,411 depending on experience and qualifications

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Saturday, 9am - 5pm

Working Pattern: 5 days per week, with Saturdays approximately 1 in 4

Looking for a new direction in your optometry career?

You don't need previous hospital experience either - full training and ongoing support will be provided, with experienced senior Optometrists on hand to support your development.

You'll join a team of around 150 Hospital Optometrists, working across a variety of clinics including pre-operative, post-operative and YAG laser services.

There are also opportunities to develop your skills in areas such as Medical Retina and Glaucoma, as well as the private Freedom Vision service.

The Role

As a Hospital Optometrist, you will:

• Perform pre- and post-operative assessments for cataract surgery patients.
• Conduct pre-operative assessments for YAG laser capsulotomy referrals.
• Obtain informed consent professionally and ethically.
• Participate in the on-call and weekend rota.
• Work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Ensure clinical areas and equipment are prepared and maintained to a high standard.
• Complete required training, including Basic Life Support and manual handling.

There may also be opportunities to work from home occasionally.

Travel throughout the region may be required when needed.

Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, 5 days between Monday and Saturday, 9am-5pm. Saturdays are approximately 1 week in every 4, with a rota day off provided for weekend working.

What We're Looking For

• Qualified Optometrist with current GOC registration.
• A genuine interest in developing your clinical skills.
• Someone passionate about learning and professional development.
• Higher qualifications are desirable.
• Previous hospital optometry experience is beneficial but not essential, as full training is provided.

If you enjoyed ocular disease during your studies and are keen to develop advanced clinical skills such as YAG laser, this could be an excellent opportunity.
