Contract Type: Flexible / Sessional / Hourly Paid

Hourly Rate: £15 – £25 per hour (dependent on experience, qualification level, and unsociable hours/peak series rates)

About EDExams and The Role

EDExams is a secure, state-of-the-art online examination, invigilation, and diagnostic assessment ecosystem engineered to empower educational institutions, training providers, and professional bodies worldwide. Our platform delivers high-stakes summative exams, vocational qualifications, diagnostic tests, and remote assessment series completely online.

Within our group, EDClass educates, mentors, and guides learners through core academic subjects including Functional Skills and GCSEs. EDExams then finalises that journey by delivering secure assessments and formal examination sittings.

We are expanding our core team of Online Invigilators and Remote Proctors to administer, proctor, and provide live candidate support on our brand-new digital assessment platform. Working remotely from home, you will safeguard the integrity of live online examinations across academic qualifications, regulated vocational disciplines, and professional certifications—maintaining a calm, professional, and supportive virtual environment for all learners.

Key Responsibilities

1. Live Remote Invigilation and Proctoring

• Supervise live, concurrent online examination sessions via multi-feed video, audio, and secure screen-monitoring interfaces.
• Maintain a professional, discreet, yet authoritative online presence that deters malpractice without creating undue stress for learners.
• Conduct thorough pre-exam checks, including candidate identity verification, room/desk environment sweeps, and the validation of permitted materials and equipment.
• Uphold strict testing conditions in full alignment with JCQ instructions, awarding organisation regulations, and EDExams standard operating procedures.

2. Candidate Care and First-Line Platform Support

• Guide candidates through login, pre-check protocols, and assessment launch procedures on our brand-new platform.
• Demonstrate high empathy and sensitivity toward candidates experiencing test-related anxiety, using calm and reassuring communication to help them settle into their exam.
• Deliver rapid, first-line troubleshooting for minor technical issues (e.g., audio settings, webcam permissions, connection reconnects), escalating complex system queries to the operational support team when required.
• Ensure approved access arrangements (e.g., extra time, scheduled rest breaks) are accurately applied and tracked for eligible candidates.

3. Compliance, Monitoring and Malpractice Reporting

• Continuously monitor live assessment telemetry and behavioural flags to identify anomalies, unauthorised materials, secondary devices, or external assistance.
• Make professional, timely interventions during live sessions where required, issuing formal warnings or pausing/terminating assessments in line with established regulatory thresholds.
• Maintain detailed, accurate digital incident logs, recording factual evidence, timestamps, and behavioural notes to support awarding organisation audit packs.

Candidate Profile and Person Specification

Essential Criteria

• Previous experience as an exam invigilator, remote proctor, online assessor, teaching assistant, or in a compliance/online customer support role within education or training.
• Working knowledge of sound test conditions and invigilation protocols (full training on the EDExams platform and regulatory frameworks will be provided).
• Strong, clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to give concise instructions to learners of all ages and backgrounds.
• High emotional intelligence and patience, with acute sensitivity to test-related anxiety and learner vulnerabilities.
• Excellent fact-checking, observational, and investigative abilities, with keen attention to detail.
• Confident digital literacy and comfort navigating web-based dashboards, video conferencing, and multi-screen monitoring environments.
• Ability to remain composed, discreet, and adaptable when dealing with unexpected technical or candidate issues.

Desirable Criteria

• Understanding of JCQ guidelines, GCSEs, Functional Skills assessments, or regulated vocational qualifications.
• Prior experience with digital proctoring software or secure browser technology.

Home Working and Technical Requirements

Because this role is delivered entirely remotely, candidates must have:

• A quiet, private, and secure room free from background noise, interruptions, or third-party presence.
• A reliable, high-speed broadband connection (minimum 20 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload; wired Ethernet preferred).
• A dependable PC or laptop (Windows 10/11 or macOS) running up-to-date operating systems and browsers.
• A dual-monitor setup (or willingness to set one up) to comfortably view concurrent candidate video feeds alongside administrative logs.
• A high-definition webcam and clear headset with microphone.

Hours and Availability

• Working Pattern: Sessional and flexible shift patterns available across mornings, afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends to reflect varied testing timetables.
• Peak Availability: Higher demand occurs during national exam series (such as November, January, and May/June windows) and scheduled mock assessment cycles.

Safeguarding and Vetting

EDExams is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

• Appointment to this role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check with Children’s Barred List clearance (arranged and funded by EDExams).
• Verification of identity, right to work in the UK, and two satisfactory professional references are required prior to commencing duties.
