Help Shape the Future of Young People at St Brendan's Sixth Form College

Are you passionate about supporting young people to make informed decisions about their future? Do you have experience working with post-16 students and helping them navigate progression opportunities, higher education, apprenticeships, and employment pathways?

St Brendan's Sixth Form College is seeking an enthusiastic and student-focused Careers Officer to join our Careers and Progression Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) to our students, helping them achieve their ambitions and make successful transitions beyond college.

Two Routes Into the Role

We are keen to attract talented individuals at different stages of their careers and are therefore recruiting to one of two pathways:

Qualified Careers Officer (Grade G)
For candidates who already hold a Level 6 Qualification in Careers Guidance (or equivalent).

Trainee Careers Officer (Grade F)
For candidates with substantial experience supporting young people in a post-16 educational, pastoral, guidance or progression setting who are willing to work towards and successfully complete a Level 6 Qualification in Careers Guidance.

This is not an entry-level role. Applicants for the trainee pathway should have proven experience of working directly with young people, providing guidance, support and progression advice within an educational environment.

About the Role

As a Careers Officer, you will:

  • Deliver impartial careers guidance through one-to-one and group sessions.
  • Support students with progression routes including Higher Education, apprenticeships, employment and training opportunities.
  • Work closely with vulnerable and priority student groups to ensure equitable progression outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development of an outstanding careers programme aligned to the Gatsby Benchmarks.
  • Support careers events, employer engagement activities, school liaison and progression initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate student records and destination tracking data.
  • Provide guidance and support during key college events including enrolment, parents' evenings, open events and results days.

Why Join St Brendan's?

At St Brendan's, we are proud to offer a supportive and collaborative environment where staff can focus on making a real difference to students' lives.

Benefits of working at St Brendan's include:

  • Working exclusively with motivated post-16 students.
  • Dedicated pastoral and Progress Tutor teams.
  • Strong collaborative culture with shared resources and best practice.
  • Excellent departmental support and mentoring.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression.
  • The chance to work within a highly successful and student-centred sixth form college.

About You

You will be passionate about supporting young people to achieve their aspirations and committed to delivering outstanding careers guidance.

You will have:

  • Experience working directly with young people in a post-16 educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of progression routes including Higher Education, apprenticeships and employment pathways.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • For the Grade G role: a Level 6 Qualification in Careers Guidance (or equivalent).
  • For the Grade F role: a willingness to undertake and complete a Level 6 Qualification in Careers Guidance.
