The Senior Civil Engineer is the lead specialist for the civil engineering discipline for Green Gen Cymru's (GGC) network development programme, working alongside other senior engineering disciplines to provide technical input and assurance principally across substation, overhead line and underground cable aspects of its projects. The role is responsible for overseeing relevant aspects of FEED design, pre-construction investigations and detailed civil design activities, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and GGC requirements.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Senior Civil Engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, consultants, contractors, customers and network operators to deliver safe, efficient and cost-effective engineering solutions. The role also requires strong coordination across engineering disciplines and wider business functions to support the successful development and delivery of GGC's network portfolio.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead and coordinate all civil engineering design activities across GGC's network development portfolio, acting as the principal point of contact for civil engineering matters.
  • Manage the delivery, integration and assurance of civil designs for substations, overhead lines and underground cable projects from concept through to energisation.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, industry standards, policies and engineering best practice throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee civil engineering design changes, technical reviews and risk management to ensure safe, efficient and compliant solutions.
  • Develop, maintain and promote engineering standards, procedures and specifications to support consistent, high-quality project delivery.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders to optimise designs, manage interfaces and achieve programme objectives.
  • Represent GGC in industry forums, working groups and engagements with DNOs, TOs, NESO, customers and other stakeholders.
  • Support the Head of Engineering through effective reporting, continuous improvement initiatives and technical input across the business.
  • Monitor project progress, risks and deliverables, ensuring timely achievement of programme milestones and business objectives.
  • Foster strong working relationships across GGC and external organisations to promote collaboration, innovation and engineering excellence.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


Knowledge & Skills
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills when reporting, negotiating, or dealing individually with stakeholders and direct reports
  • A high standard of written and oral English, with the ability to describe and provide clarity on engineering requirements to stakeholders
  • Organised individual who can multi-task and manage the engineering team across different projects

Experience & Qualifications
  • Degree qualification in civil engineering or relevant previous experience will be considered for this role
  • You will have a proven record of accomplishment as a civil engineer in an energy network project delivery environment
  • You will have a proven track record of managing engineering civil design from concept to delivery for energy network projects
  • Has experience of the application of CDM to design activities throughout the project lifecycle
  • Has experience of delivery to engineering standards for connection to the UK electricity network
