Post No. POSN005327 - Principal Environmental Health Officer - Food Hygiene
We are pleased to offer a full time, permanent post of Principal Environmental Health Officer leading our Food Hygiene team within the Environment and Public Health Service.
You will be responsible for the daily management, supervision and leadership of the Food Safety Team consisting of five Environmental Health Officers delivering the full remit of Food Safety activities.
You will ensure the functions of the team are delivered in accordance with the Council’s and the Service Area’s performance targets and policies. You will ensure the team provide an effective, efficient and responsive service for customers across the City, and be the lead officer on all Food Hygiene and Safety matters.
The successful candidate will see a varied and dynamic role with no two days the same. You will lead on the delivery of day-to-day team functions such as inspections of food premises, response to hygiene complaints, and inspection and approval of manufacturing premises. You will have a knowledge of the Primary Authority scheme because Newport administers a Primary Authority relationship with a leading national supermarket.
You should possess a degree or diploma in Environmental Health and have EHORB registration (or equivalent). You should have a minimum of five years specialist working knowledge and skills in Food Hygiene and Safety regulation, and have recent experience of leading complicated food safety enforcement cases through to successful resolution or prosecution. Previous experience of managing services and leading a team is desirable, and a Lead Auditor qualification would be an advantage. You will have a good working knowledge of the Food Law Code of Practice (Wales), undertaking quality assurance on officer/team work, and be able to produce reports on performance and service planning to a high level for national regualtors such as the FSA.
