Live-In Carer | 1 Week on - 1 Week Off | Torbay

Ocean Healthcare is seeking a Live-in Care Assistant for a gentleman in his early 70s who is living with Alzheimer's at home with his wife in Torbay. He wants to carry on enjoying life in his own home, and he is looking for someone who will see the person he is and not just his Alzheimer's.

Who you'd be supporting

He is a husband, father and grandfather, and a retired primary school headteacher. He has always enjoyed learning and sharing what he knows, and he has a real passion for rugby and for history, especially the Second World War.

His Alzheimer's has made it harder for him to express himself in words, so he needs someone patient who will take the time to get to know him. He says a lot through his face, his behaviour and his body language, and the right person will learn to read it.

Rosie the dog is very much part of the family. He walks her every day and she enjoys plenty of cuddles, so you'll need to be comfortable around dogs.

He wants to keep getting out into the community rather than being stuck at home, which is why being able to drive matters.

Shift Details:

• 1 week on - 1 week off

• 2 hour break each day

Note: We recognise that 1 week on/1 week off doesn't suit everyone, there is flexibility around the shift patterns so please contact us if you're interested to discuss your availability.

Pay Rate:

• £1,250.00 per week

Key Responsibilities

• Provide live-in support in the family home, including sleep-in duties

• Deliver person-centred care in line with his care plan

• Recognise and respond to how he communicates without words

• Keep him active and involved, at home and out in the community

• Walk Rosie with him each day

• Provide personal care with dignity and respect

• Work alongside his wife and the wider family

What We're Looking For

• Calm, patient and observant, happy to give him time rather than rush him

• Comfortable around dogs

• A driver

• Comfortable living and working within a family home

Experience supporting someone with dementia helps but is not essential, as full training and ongoing support will be provided.

What You’ll Need:

• At least 1 year of UK experience as a Healthcare Assistant or Support Worker.

• Full-UK Driving License and Access to your own vehicle

• UK work references - covering 3 years (at least one must be care-related).

• Reliability and Good Communication

• Right to work in the UK
