The full time equivalent salary of £53,051 to £56,293 includes an amount for a market supplement ranging from £4,313 to £4,365 per year. This market supplement is reviewed annually.

Torbay Council's Corporate Safety Team has an exciting opportunity to deliver fire safety within this beautiful area of South Devon. We are a highly motivated team delivering competent Fire Safety and Health and Safety advice and ensuring legal compliance through the use of electronic systems.

If you have extensive experience in delivering successful fire safety management and want a challenging and rewarding career look no further. Torbay Council has a wide portfolio of assets including historic buildings, retail developments and residential accommodation and covers work activities from Harbours to Waste and Tourism.

Working closely with contractors, service managers and our Property Services team, you will be responsible for producing effective fire risk assessment programmes, policies and procedures, to ensure legal standards are maintained and that a positive fire safety culture is embedded in all Torbay Council's activities.

We are looking for an adaptable individual, keen to embrace new technologies, and capable of providing innovative solutions in Fire Safety. We offer flexible working, subsidised car parking and an opportunity to be part of a friendly and highly functioning team.

This opportunity may be suitable for part time or job-share employment.

This position is for a fixed term of 18 months from the start date.

This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.

Skills


Essential:
  • Excellent investigative, inspection and auditing skills.
  • Comprehensive report writing and data generation skills.
  • Well developed assessment skills to enable the prompt and effective evaluation of proposed mitigations and works.
  • Ability to elicit information in a variety of formats to allow a robust assessment of risk.

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.


Knowledge


Essential:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Electronic Fire/H&S Management systems and their application in the management of Fire Safety.
  • Extensive knowledge of Fire Risk Assessment, including the production of competent reports, accurate records and effective mitigation strategies.
  • Full understanding of the “competent person” role under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
  • Extensive knowledge in the application of British Standards applicable to Fire.

Experience & Qualifications


Essential:
  • Level 4 qualification in Fire Safety.
  • Extensive experience of delivering High Level Fire Safety Management within a large or complex organisation.
  • Use of electronic systems in the management and prioritisation of risk.
  • Proven ability to be creative, using innovative approaches to secure engagement and promote good practice and legal compliance.
