Key responsibilities of the role are:

• To ensure the depot workshop is organised, functional and safe in accordance with Glendale’s Health and Safety policy. To carry out inspections accordingly to meet these requirements.

• Monitor progress and performance using Glendale Live and other company systems

• Undertake quality monitoring of work completed and provide reports

• Maintain good employee relations and ensure expectations are understood and met.

• Assist in the delivery of staff training plans to ensure mandatory compliance needs are met and skill levels are developed.

• Undertake incident investigations and support the Contract Manager in respect of any disciplinary matters and corrective actions.

• Evaluate vehicle and machinery requirements and maintain them in accordance with company systems and manufacturers recommendations and record this information on FAR.

• To produce equipment quotations for repairs to machinery and equipment for other contracts as required.

• To assist with the control and management of green waste and street sweepings.

• Ensure all equipment is checked and safe for use by appropriately qualified staff.

• To manage the control and prioritise the workload of the workshop staff, to ensure the prompt repair of equipment, ordering and chasing parts.

• Assist the Contract Manager in providing information for the client as required.

• Maintain excellent communication internally and with the client and members of the public.

• Liaise with Client Officers to: agree programmes of work, discuss technical matters, inspect and certify completed work, agree additional works, resolve issues.

• To make recommendations on improvement to specified service standards.

• Provide data for pricing of additional work for the client and other external customers. Produce quotations for additional works and submit them to the Contract Manager for approval.

• Plan and oversee the effective delivery of additional works.

• Fully participate in health and safety compliance and the overall company health and safety culture.

• Undertake safety inspections on a regular basis.

• Ensure all incidents, near hits and safety observations are recorded on GlenSafe in a timely manner.

• Conduct investigations into safety incidents as required.

• Organise contract safety meetings and toolbox talks.

• Any other duties that may arise relevant to the role.

• The role of the Mechanic/Fitter can never be defined fully, but in all matters must demonstrate leadership and command respect within the business. All decisions must be communicated clearly both to those responsible to the post holder and to those persons the post holder reports to.

• The Mechanic/Fitter should also be prepared to take the initiative and continually improve operational activity. You should have ambition and a high level of commitment. The position is critical to decision making processes within the business and you must gain the trust and loyalty of all stakeholders in the company.

Health and Safety

• To act in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Glendale Health and Safety Policy at all times

• To carry out instructions from your Line Manager in accordance with Glendale’s Health and Safety Policy, Glendale’s Codes of Practice, Glendale’s Quality Management Systems and the Employee Handbook.

• To be knowledgeable of Health and safety regulations within your workplace and the activities that you are carrying out.

• Ensure you have completed the necessary induction and health and safety modules prior to commencement of any works.

• You must be responsible for the health and safety of yourself and that of others, in your working environment,

• To promote safe working practices at all times and to ensure that all equipment is safe to use.

The above lists are not exhaustive and you may be required to undertake other duties as may be reasonably required by the company.

If you are unsure of any of the above items it is your responsibility to raise them with your Line Manager.

Qualifications

You will ideally hold a minimum level 2 qualification in land based service engineering or similar or have completed a thorough apprenticeship in agriculture or horticulture machinery mechanics.

For example:

• the National Certificate (BTEC or EdExcel) ~ NVQ Level 3 ~ or

• the Advanced National Certificate or

• the National Diploma or

• the Higher National Certificate or Diploma ~ NVQ Level 4 ~ or

• a Foundation Degree or

• a Bachelor of Sciences degree ~ NVQ Level 5 ~ or

• a Masters degree ~ NVQ Level 5 +

A full, clean driving licence is an essential requirement for this role.
