Job Requirements/Description

Late Support Worker – Men’s Service

The Nelson Trust is a charity dedicated to supporting people affected by addiction and trauma to build safer, more stable futures. Within our residential treatment services in Stroud, we offer trauma-informed care in a structured, supportive environment where recovery can begin and lives can be rebuilt.

Our approach is shaped by years of experience and colleagues with lived experience, creating a culture grounded in empathy and real insight. This enables us to provide care that not only meets practical needs but supports lasting change.

We are looking for a Late Support Worker to join our team, providing consistent, compassionate support to residents in residential treatment outside of core daytime hours, helping to maintain a safe, stable environment through the evening.

What does that look like day to day?

Supporting recovery out of hours means creating a calm, safe and well-held environment, including:

  • Being a consistent and reassuring presence, helping maintain safety and stability during quieter hours
  • Supporting residents to uphold treatment expectations and stay connected to their recovery journey
  • Welcoming new arrivals and helping them settle into the house
  • Carrying out key tasks such as room checks, medication administration and health & safety checks
  • Responding calmly to challenging situations, including providing de-escalation support when residents are in distress
  • Keeping accurate records and providing clear handovers to support continuity of care

What you'll bring to the role

Working in this way requires confidence, emotional awareness and a strong sense of responsibility. We are looking for someone who brings:

  • A full driving licence, access to a vehicle and willingness to travel when required
  • Confidence in lone working and making considered decisions independently
  • The ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Experience of, or an understanding of, residential treatment, safeguarding, substance misuse, trauma or supporting vulnerable adults
  • A calm, steady approach, with the ability to respond thoughtfully under pressure
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail when recording and sharing information
  • Willingness to undertake training, including medication administration where required
  • Flexibility to work a rolling evening shift pattern

What our clients need most

  • A consistent and reliable presence that helps them feel safe, particularly outside of core daytime hours
  • Someone who is non-judgemental, compassionate and able to encourage positive change
  • Clear boundaries, encouragement and belief in their ability to recover

How we support you

We recognise the resilience and responsibility this role requires, particularly when working more independently, which is why we are committed to supporting you as much as you support our clients.

  • Salary: £25,000 - £26,500 (pro rata, depending on experience)
  • Hours: 21 per week, rolling shift pattern 4pm - 10pm
  • Location: Brimscombe, Stroud
  • Holidays: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro-rata), increasing by 1 day for each year of service up to a maximum of 30 days
  • Pension: 6% employer contribution
  • Investment in your development through training, supervision and career pathways
  • Access to wellbeing and employee assistance support
  • Death in service benefit (2x salary)
  • Refer a Friend scheme
  • Blue Light Card discounts
  • Eye care scheme
  • Cycle to Work scheme

This role will close once a suitable candidate has been appointed. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.

If you are committed to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of our clients and have a flexible approach to work, we would love to hear from you. Join us in making a difference in the lives of those seeking recovery.

We have become known for the quality of our work and ability to provide bespoke care and support services. While we are proud of our achievements so far, we are ambitious and want to continue to grow and diversify our workforce.
